Annual St. Patrick’s Day Pea Planting Party
It’s time! The dry, warm spring weather in Denver has urged us to get seeds in the ground but we have resisted – with the exception of one annual tradition. St. Patrick’s Day has become the lucky traditional day to get your peas in the ground. Due to their short window, peas need about two months until they are mature and ready for harvest. But they won’t survive in the heat of the summer. So, mid-March has become the targeted planting date. For the last couple of years we’ve combined the pea planting with a party – no gardening should be done without friends and food (and some green drinks). This year we were joined by around 30 friends and together we planted, ate, and drank in celebration of the official start of planting season. Enjoy these great photos of the helpers and keep a look out for other volunteer opportunities by joining our Meetup group here.
